What Is an Afternoon Intensive Program (IOP)?

An Intensive Afternoon Intensive Program (IOP) is a level of behavioral health care that involves multiple therapy sessions per day, at least three days per week, without requiring an overnight stay. IOP is ideal for individuals who require structured, consistent care but still wish to live at home.
At Improving Lives, our IOP combines individual therapy, group therapy, family counseling, and psychiatric care to treat a wide range of emotional and behavioral health conditions. Our licensed clinicians use evidence-based therapies and person-centered

Who Is Afternoon Intensive Program (IOP)?

Afternoon Intensive Program (IOP) is best suited for clients who:

  • Are stepping down from a higher level of care, such as PHP or inpatient treatment
  • Need more support than weekly outpatient therapy can provide
  • Are dealing with moderate to severe mental health conditions that impact daily life
  • Have experienced recent emotional or behavioral crises
  • Need consistent, structured support while managing school, work, or family.
This level of care is commonly recommended for people dealing with:
  • Major Depression

  • Schizophrenia

If you’re unsure whether IOP is right for you, our intake team can provide a clinical assessment and help guide you to the most appropriate level of care.
