Substance Abuse (also known as drug abuse) : About and Treatment
The consumption of legal or illegal mood altering substances can lead to significant problems in the functioning and quality of our lives. It can present problems in many areas of our lives; health, relationships, financial, legal, emotional, mental and spiritual among others.
It is a habit or patterned use of a drug in which the user consumes the substance in amounts or with methods which are harmful to themselves or others, and is a form of substance-related disorder.
Drugs most often abused are include: alcohol, cannabis, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opioids and amphetamines.
It is considered that about 40% of individuals with substance abuse problems also struggle with another mental health diagnosis (depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, Schizophrenia, Etc...)
